While planning a birthday party for her late aunt Bianca “Exotica” Maldonado, María José Maldonado revisits the past in order to celebrate and correct Bianca’s legacy as a transgender woman.

My Fierce Aunt Bianca was created as part of the BRIC Documentary Lab and premiered at the 2023 Inside Out Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival. The film has been featured in the AIDS Memorial and BronxNet and is currently available to be viewed at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) until November 14 as part of the Flaunt Being A Dream exhibit at MoCADA's Abolition House on Governors Island, New York.
